Dancing Chairs

I am taking a break this week getting a Little Building Cafe Blog going, hosting a great photo shoot with the very talented Rinne Allen and general "the school term is almost over!"
I can not believe it.
These chairs fit the mood-Ante Vojnovic's dancing chairs-
from Yatzer.

Building Hope-perspective

I just saw these images of what our old neighborhood in Brooklyn(via The Brownstoner) looked like last night at the report of Obama's victory. BUT my friend Chris sent me this map of our county here in Mississippi. Wow!

Building Fun

This is a big weekend here in Starkville. The Pardon Johnny Cash Festival. Evidently, early in Mr. Cash's career he got caught picking flowers illegally in the Starkville city limits and spent the night in jail here. It would have been long forgotten had he not mentioned it in a song...... So here in Northern Mississippi we like to celebrate well- getting out of jail successfully- so we have a music festival! This year Rosanne Cash is playing right at the top of my street! I am really fired up. For events calender see www.pardonjohnnycash.com

Building Community

I am going to start to do one "why we live in a small town" post per week. It probably will not be for the obvious reasons.....So with this great picture of a Starkville Main Street storefront taken by Caleb Crawford(friend of mine) -I will tell you today's reason. Yesterday I got pulled over by one of Starkville's finest...I had no idea why but I had an expired license tag. When he realized I truly had not had a car for 12years and was not in the groove of constant car rigor, he sweetly told me how to get a new sticker. Well at 3:00 this afternoon I went to get the new sticker had no wait, had a charming and helpful license tag lady to help me-step one accomplished. Then I went to visit Officer Coleman to show him that I had gone and gotten my sticker. City hall is a block away. Officer Coleman "took care" of my ticket and I am back at the house by 3:45! That's why I love small towns the "knats " of life-traffic tickets, banking, etc. are really knats not all consuming....

Wow

This weekend I will get more rigorous about the blog, getting lectures together and a new train of thought about furniture but tonight I just have to say "wow". We just finished watching the opening ceremonies for the Olympics. I was ready for some good old cheesy showmanship and we got something much more. The filmmaker Zhang Yimou is the artistic director and what a beautiful eye he has, every detail was very, well classy. And I have to report I had my first pang of professional envy-I would be so proud if I had designed the "birdsnest"-I hope Ai Weiwei is-to build a cultural icon and have a cute nickname.

One more non- chair or building post...

Chase's Daily in Belfast Maine does not have website. But does have some of the best food and produce on the east coast. I actually feel myself craving omelets and sourdough toast come July. Chase's is a big inspiration for Little Building Cafe.; To build a business around local produce and employ a " within arms reach" approach to making space and making food. If you are ever in downtown Belfast Maine, you must stay for lunch.

Firecrackers

Madeline and I just drove out to the highway and went to the fireworks tent. This is our first encounter with such an establishment, a culture very new to us. We got some sparklers. Happy Glorious Fourth!
