Caleb not not win the Times Square Re-Fresh competition but we actually liked the entry so much I thought I would share what he did. Taking cues from his "form poems" he devised a series of moves that he thought moved the typical black asphalt and white line street painting to another level. They picked a swimming pool concept...that happens alot in NYC summer competitions.
I was so inspired by the remodelista post about LA purveyor Blackman Cruz. These Clarke and Reilly chairs are not just beautiful but the act of recovering them with a Mennonite petticoat
is a wonderfully romantic effort.
I am working on mock up of stitching/drawings/maps for another series of furniture. I was really taken with Faulkner's Rowan Oak and reading about his tireless energy to revive the house and grounds...It is an overwhelming sense of loyalty to place that I think is very prevalent to the south....I am going to be working on a series of maps that illustrate this connection....oh sounds so formal/academic-we'll see.
Madeline and I had another great pilgrimage this week. A trip north to Oxford Mississippi. Home of all things literary, Oxford is a very charming town. We ate at a Madeline friendly establishment but next time I hope to indulge some of the culinary treats there. We went to the very famous Square Books and then on to the home of Mr. Faulkner. His home stead is modest as most historic writers houses are but the grounds do evolve the gothic of Faulkner's work...project brewing, where is my needle?
I have been working although its a struggle with so much going on. I have been working on these peices for a year, sewing chairs. The sofa has the plan of Le Petit Trianon embroidered on it and the yellow chair is an attempt at flora and fauna overtaking the chair. More pieces will follow these.
Sometimes you forget who the most talented people in your life are....In my case its my husband. For a number of years he has kept the blog formpoetrypolitics. It is a verbal rant as well as a visual rant but dog- gone -it somebody's got to draw it. For a number of years Caleb did a drawing a day -lately less but the body of work is amazing, dizzying and intense...I'm lucky.
I posted this last night and I was probably a little too excited....but technical difficulties have subsided and its beautiful. Yes, we have edited...most people don't do that but we really wanted to highlight the kind of work that we want to continue to do. So ladies and gentlemen a new C+C web site!!!!!!!
The web site is designed by the talented Justin Taylor...
I clipped these images because they could be used for some very refined DIY. The chair is from Jayson Home And Garden and is upholstered in "vintage" grain sack fabric. The shopping buckets I found awhile ago but comparable ones where Bloesem's site this morning. I have a lot of Coffee bags from LBC-got to think of a project with them!
Caleb draws a Valentine for Madeline and I every Valentine's Day. We have quite a nice collection now. I thought I would share last years and tomorrow we will have some new ones. Happy Valentines!
Okay, I have been working long and hard to get the Little Building Cafe blog up and running. It's not exactly how we want it yet but we will all work through the tiny adjustments, I hope. This new blog will serve as a almost daily update of what Ted is preparing at LBC, what we are getting from farmers and what we hope to get from farmers...Also it will serve as a way to talk about the community and our interests and work in the community. I hope to also feature role models from the culinary world as well as cool work being done to promote sustainablity and yes some design thoughts as well. Please let me know what you think as we get this off the ground.

My friend Kornell Bouman just e-mailed me that the new splash page from Cherner Chair Company is sporting a Coggan+ Crawford project. The space looks great!
Speaking of Brooklyn, we got a very nice shout out from The Brownstoner about the 272 21st Street project. The building is rocking along, we get to go see it next week!
This an image from the photo shoot that Rinne Allen did for Little Building this month. It really says it all.
