Tree Building
Well we finally did it. After years of being a "sustainable practice", driving a Prius and having the garbage men look at me with suspicion as he takes our ONE garbage bag; we made our own tree. Rational includes,"we are designers and we should design everything", "we are in NYC during the xmas week and its a waste"...but it is fun to start a new tradition in the middle of it all....oh and the blonde barbie angel is a tradition brought from Brooklyn. You mean Barbie Angels aren't common practice in the south?????

Pretty Building
So 305 got some sprucing up this winter, new roof on the porch, taking care of a fragile ceiling on the porch, new coat of paint every where. A new guest bath-with mostly reused elements. Tiles are left over from Little Building project, the counter top is a lab top from the university, cabinet made from remnants around here, lights from a impulse buy in NYC years ago. And I finally put to use my compulsive mirror buying habit. Ah, now on to more furniture work this spring. Happy Holidays!

Changing the building
As designers are known to do, we have riped out a bathroom, re-configured the laundry room and if all goes well Caleb and I will both get our own studios.....So to end the week I thought I would do a little homage to our first year in the house as it will be changing as the weekend moves along.....beautiful images by Rinne Allen

Art In Buildings
These are the two pieces of art that have come into my life. Honestly as a "maker" I did not have any desire for collecting art. But as I have come to understand how rooms come together this last layer of the room is very important. It seems to make the "storytelling" of the room happen. Cindy Neal's portrait of Madeline certainly brings this to the room. And Jean Glenn's work is a small formal story that is dear to my heart. Jean is represented by Tew Galleries in Atlanta and Cindy will have a web site up for us to look at early this summer.

305 GS-Living Room continued.
The last post got a little truncated but here is some more info. At the the end of the cafe chair project we had three chairs that were too small to be comfortable for people sitting at a table. Therefore we decided to "graft" these three together. Madeline had the idea that they should be labeled one, two, three. And Nels thought that the lettering should be variates of the gray colors. The living room is shaping up. It probably will not be as strict as the drawings I worked out, mostly because some wonderful Art has come into my life. One painting by Jean Glenn in Atlanta-a very talented painter and old friend. And Cindy Neal has done a beautiful portrait of Madeline; she does narrative portraits of children- she interviewed Madeline then photographed her and now we have a very wonderful artifact of her life as a "City Kid". So next is the beautiful sofa with Peter Fasano fabric and we will be done! Room 1-
