Building industry

I have had a crush on the Mill Building in Starkville since we first arrived. Named the E.E.Cooley building in 1962, it was originally the John M. Stone textile Mill built in 1902. This was a late addition to Mississippi's attempt at capturing the northeastern monopoly on the textile economy but it was some what successful. I just found out that Mississippi State has many Landmark status buildings on campus.. This will be some fun research.

Building friends

Remodelista included the humble Greensboro bath along with some very chic interiors-we are quite flattered.

building across America-starting point

This is my farewell note to Starkville for the summer. The back view from Little Building essentially is the rail yard of Starkville. I had no idea that the train stop running through the town just 5 years ago. I am of course transfixed by this condition after reading the one of my favorite history Books- The Promise of the New South, Life after Reconstruction by Edward L. Ayers These are not the prettiest parts of Starkville but I find them the most interesting.

Building shift

Count down to driving to Maine. In fairness to Starkville-since I photograph alot in Maine I have started to document things I see around here. And you must suffer through video learning number two!

Building adventures

Last fall I did a lot of NYC-Mississippi back and forth so I did not post that much about travel-Well get ready because this spring I will feel like I am part of a bad bar band-Knoxville, Mobile, Atlanta, New Orleans and Birmingham...for a variety of reasons-One thing that is getting me excited are the beautiful photographs of E.L.Malvaney(a pen name!) on his/her Flickr page. And the crazy blog from Mississippi Preservation......I love this place.

The Town before the Building

These "drawings" are just back from the Brooklyn, NY show. They are a little bit an example of my need for adventure and part figuring out a way to "draw" while watching T.V., calling my Mom and readings stories with Madeline. Caleb has tremendous discipline and will sit down after dinner and MAKE a drawing. I really like to be social in the evening so I found this great medium to work out actually very hard to "draw" ideas.
In two books I have read this year, Mississippi, The WPA Guide to the Magnolia State and The Promise of the New South, Life after Reconstruction, By Edward L. Ayers; they establish the premise that the history of Mississippi is the history of transportation. This idea caught me and I tried to "draw" the towns where the juncture of the rivers and the railroads made the town. This idea could take me years to complete..... Oh yes and thats Brooklyn, MS.
